Dragonheart a Brief History

Some people are not aware that Dragonheart has been on air before, in a slightly diferent guise, and was presented by Wst Board member Spencer Harris! and look where he is now.

 

When the idea of Dragonheart coming back was mooted, nobody really knew where they were going with it, the initial idea was to have 5-6 presenters, editors and interviewers etc all on a rota system so that everybody felt part of the team, to this point about a few of us attended the Calon fm course,teaching us about the station, how it works behind the scenes and how to work the equipment, myself (Kingsley Evans), Wst Chairman Peter Jones, Richard Ulrich (now on the Wst Sub Committee) and Tom Stanford, all went along to see if it was possible to get this idea off the ground again.

 

As things progressed, it became clear that the time needed to put the show together was, not just the 1 hour that people listen to on a Friday afternoon, and it also became clear that, for some the voice behind the mic on a regular basis was not something they wanted to do, its an accquired taste listening to your own voice.

I had previous experience from working on Wrexham's Hospital Radio staion, so it was not something that worried me at all, and i seemed to become the regular presenter of the show very quickly, this is something that was unexpected but welcomed nevertheless.

 

Because Peter Jones, Tom Stanford and finally Richichard Ulrich, had lots of other commitments with the Wst, it became almost impossible to say who could help each week and so the editing, recording of interviews and presenting the show became something i did single handed, Richard introduced me to Andy Pierce who listeners will know is a Regular co-presenter, and very knowledgeable when it comes to Wrexham Afc, and i thank him for his contribution.    

                                      

On the flip side to all this is that i get to go down to training at the Racecourse 1-2 a week, or to private functions to get interviews etc, as a result of this i meet the Manager, whether thats Andy Morrell, Kevin Wilkin, Gary Mills, or the current choice Dean Keates and the players, even getting thier numbers to chat away from social media to make interview arragements etc, and board members (sometimes in thier own home), as a fan and along with my wife a season ticket holder, this give me a unique look at Wrexham Afc from a different angle.

 

As listeners and fans, the show is made for you to try and give you an insight as to what is going on at the club, not just on the pitch, but the fundraising, the ground Maintenence, the stewarding / safety etc and everythig else that Wrexham Afc is about, I hope we cover that over a season, judging by the Podcast Downloads we have each week, it seems fans are enjoying listening and for that we are greatful.
